Did You Join Facebook To Spy On Your Kids?

If you have recently noticed that your parents are getting interested in setting up a Facebook account, then be wary. That is because, they may very well be intending to use that Facebook account in order to keep tabs on you. This is not something that the average child would suspect from their parents, however, it is becoming quite common for parents to start their own Facebook profile in order to keep a watch on their child’s activities.

A recent survey has stated that their research shows that greater than 50% of parents who have a Facebook account, have admitted to snooping on their children and their activities. They told the survey that they want to know where their children have been and who they are friends with, and they complete this by checking their “check-ins” and their friends list.

When quizzed as to why they spy on their children’s Facebook activity, the majority of parents surveyed stated that they do it in order to make sure that their children are safe from online predators.
The study also showed that as many as half of parents who are using Facebook to follow their children’s activities do so on a daily basis. In addition to which, a third of parents surveyed stated that they check their child’s Facebook page at least 4 times each and every week.

Those parents who only check their child’s Facebook activity now and again, comes in at a low 14%, whereas those who check it as little as once a month comes in at a lowly 11%. These statistics show that the majority of parents check out their child’s Facebook profile on a regular basis, and in fact only a meager 1% of parents who took part in the survey said that they never checked the Facebook profiles of their children.

When asked what kind of things that appear on their child’s Facebook page interests them the most, over 40% of the parents asked, admitted that they have more of an interest in their child’s status updates more than everything else. Only a third of parents polled were concerned about the kinds of images, photos and videos that their children were being tagged in. Whilst, nearly 40% of parents said that they were interested in what other people posted on to their child’s Facebook page.

In addition to these statistics, 11% of those parents polled admitted that they only joined Facebook in order to keep a track on their children whilst online, and another 5% said they would do it if they knew how to.

Parents have had to get even sneakier though, when that friend request to their child gets rejected, and over 10% of parents admitted to using a friend’s account in order to spy on their children.
This survey and its data are likely to be unnerving for teenagers who are currently Facebook friends with their parents, however, they should not be surprised that social media is being used to keep track of them as it becomes more popular.

Survey Tells That Consumers Rank Online Privacy as a Top Priority

One of the recent surveys carried out by TRUSTe which is an online and mobile privacy solution provider, tells that consumers are much more aware than ever about internet or online security and mobile phone security, and is ranked as a foremost priority. 

This online survey that has been compiled from responses of around 1,033 American adults and 554 smartrphone owners or smartphone users, tells that 94% percent of consumers think that privacy holds a lot of importance in their lives. In addition to that, 58% percent of people dislike OBA which is  an Online Behavioral Advertising that gives advertisers the one-up because it uses computer, PC or cell phone monitoring software for keeping track of all person’s searches.

This survey also tells us that 42% percent of smartphone owners or smartphone users see privacy as the most important concern and 85% percent of people say that they don’t download an application which has security related issues or the one they don’t trust. 

What else, 60% percent of people said that they are more concerned and worried about the online privacy than they have done 1 year ago. It illustrates that more businesses are required to make security and privacy a foremost priority while developing new software and new systems. 

Also, 76% of people said that they don’t permit companies to share the personal info with any third party or person and 35% of people said that they stop doing business with a company which is having a website online with privacy concerns.
